Transgender Rights Are Human Rights

Transgender pride flag representing rights and inclusion
A symbol of visibility, dignity, and equal rights.

Transgender rights in Nigeria are human rights. Transgender people deserve the same dignity, safety, and respect as everyone else. Gender identity should never be a reason for violence, discrimination, or exclusion.

When transgender people are denied safety, healthcare, employment, or justice, it is a clear violation of human rights.

Key Challenges in Nigeria

In many parts of Nigeria, transgender persons face daily challenges, including stigma, harassment, arbitrary arrest, and denial of basic services. These experiences affect physical health, mental wellbeing, and the ability to live freely. No one should live in fear because of who they are.

HOHSRI’s Commitment

At Happiest Ones Health Support and Rights Initiative (HOHSRI), we believe strongly that transgender rights are human rights. Through our ISDAO-funded project, we are working to protect and promote human rights in Lagos, Ogun, and Oyo States.

Key Actions & Interventions

  • Human rights education & community dialogues
  • Documentation of rights violations
  • Referrals to legal & psychosocial support
  • Challenging harmful myths with stakeholders
  • Empowering persons to know & defend their rights

Building Safer Communities

By working across Lagos, Ogun, and Oyo, HOHSRI ensures that transgender people are not left behind regardless of where they live. We believe informed communities are stronger communities, and respect for human rights supports peace and social justice.

Universal Rights

Human rights are universal. They belong to everyone, including transgender people. HOHSRI remains committed to standing with transgender communities and ensuring their voices are heard, protected, and respected today and always.
