Real stories from the individuals whose lives have been transformed by HOHSRI's sanctuary.
When I was at my lowest, HOHSRI was there for me. After my parents found out about my sexual orientation and I was left without a home, HOHSRI provided me with shelter at their safe house. They didn't just give me a place to stay, they gave me a community, a family.
I was wrongfully detained and thought my life was over. The HOHSRI legal team stepped in immediately. They provided pro-bono representation and didn't stop until I was free. They are not just an organization; they are defenders of human dignity.
Accessing healthcare as a trans woman is usually terrifying, but at HOHSRI's clinic, I felt seen and respected. For the first time, I received judgment-free STI treatment and counseling. It’s the only place I feel safe to be myself.
The trauma of rejection weighed me down for years. HOHSRI’s mental health support group gave me the tools to heal. Sharing my story with others who truly understand has been the most liberating experience of my life.
The African Pride Celebration was a turning point for me. Seeing so many of us standing tall and proud changed how I view myself. HOHSRI is proving that we exist, we matter, and we have a future here.
Good day,
Dubem here. So I have always wanted to be a social worker. How do I get to become a part of HOHSRI? I’d love to work. How do I go about it?
